The “Training of Trainers” seminar within the Schools for Democracy program has successfully concluded.

Between June 11–13, 2025, Step by Step Moldova (Educational Program Pas cu Pas), in partnership with the European Wergeland Centre, conducted the Training of Trainers seminar, part of the regional initiative Schools for Democracy: Strengthening Democratic Resilience through Education.
The event, held at Summit Events & Conference Center in Chișinău, marked the launch of a new project dedicated to strengthening democratic education and inclusion in Moldovan schools. The seminar brought together experienced trainers from across the country—professionals actively engaged in the education sector who stood out through their expertise, commitment, and openness to collaboration.
These trainers are not only education specialists, but genuine agents of change. Thanks to their contribution, the seminar unfolded in an energetic, collaborative, and highly professional atmosphere. Their active participation and exchange of ideas fostered a learning environment that was authentic, engaging, and mutually enriching.
A highlight of the official opening was the presence of Kamilla H. Kolshus, Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Moldova, who shared a message of support for democratic education and regional cooperation in this field. Her presence emphasized Norway’s strong commitment to the sustainable development of education in the region.
Over the course of the three days, participants explored key topics such as:
- Democratic culture and student participation;
- Inclusion and equity in education;
- Democratic school governance;
- The Whole School Approach;
- Competences for a democratic culture, in line with the Council of Europe’s Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC).
The activities were facilitated by an international team of experts from the European Wergeland Centre, who guided the learning process through interactive methods, relevant materials, and case studies tailored to the Moldovan educational context.
This seminar represents the first phase of a broader project, funded by the Nansen Support Programme for Ukraine under the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), aiming to foster a more resilient, inclusive, and democratic educational framework in both Moldova and Ukraine.
What’s next?
The trainers who participated in this seminar will continue to play an active role in the project by supporting school teams through training sessions, consultancy, and mentorship. In the next phase, they will help implement local educational projects in schools across the country, contributing to the transformation of educational culture in the spirit of democracy, cooperation, and mutual respect.
We extend our sincere thanks to all participants for their energy, professionalism, and dedication. It was an excellent beginning—and we look forward to building the next steps together!
