Call for Participation: The ‘Schools for Democracy’ Programme in the Republic of Moldova (2025–2026)

The Step by Step Educational Program and the European Wergeland Centre (EWC) are launching the selection process of 20 schools from the Republic of Moldova to participate in the program “Schools for Democracy: Strengthening Democratic Resilience through Education.”

What does the program offer?

  • Intensive 3-day training for school teams (October 27–29.2025, in Chișinău);
  • Professional development certificate – 18 hours;
  • Interactive thematic webinars with teachers from across the country;
  • Personalized mentorship and guidance in implementing a democratic school project;
  • Three online mentoring sessions;
  • Participation in the final international conference to present best practices;
  • Full coverage of costs (transport, accommodation, educational materials).

Who can apply?

  • Any general education institution: primary schools, gymnasiums, and lyceums;
  • The school team must consist of 3 members: 1 representative from the administration, 1 teacher, and 1 representative of students/parents/community;
  • Participation is free of charge and requires the active commitment of the team throughout the program.

What do we aim to achieve?

The project supports the development of a democratic, inclusive, and safe educational climate in schools in Moldova, with a focus on:

  • Promoting student participation and democratic governance in schools;
  • Training teachers in Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights (EDC/HRE);
  • Integrating students in vulnerable situations and fostering community involvement;
  • Strengthening cooperation between schools and local authorities.
