Step by Step – Building the Future Together!
Launched in 1994, the Step by Step Educational Program has established itself as a true catalyst for democratic reform in the educational system of the Republic of Moldova. Placing the child and their needs at the center, the program promotes equitable access to quality education for all children, in close collaboration with families and local communities.
The child-centered educational model, initially piloted at the preschool and primary levels, was recognized as an innovative approach within the framework of national education reform and has gradually been expanded to a national scale. Over the years, the Step by Step non-governmental organization extended its efforts beyond isolated interventions in kindergartens and schools, promoting active, relevant learning within democratic and inclusive communities.
To achieve its goals, the program invested in building a strong team of approximately 50 national trainers, selected from among practitioners with experience in implementing the child-centered methodology. At the same time, it developed valuable educational resources and organized training courses for teachers, school managers, and other community stakeholders.
Active involvement in the International Step by Step Association (ISSA) has significantly contributed to the organization’s institutional development and to the promotion of international standards in education.
Today, Step by Step is recognized as one of the most influential educational NGOs in the Republic of Moldova, playing a key role in major national initiatives such as Education for All – Rapid Response Initiative. Through these efforts, the organization aims to expand access to quality educational services, especially for children in rural areas, thus advancing an inclusive and sustainable vision of education.
